The Department of English was once again well represented at the Robert Penn Warren Circle. The conference is held annually in April at Guthrie, Kentycky--and our students and alumni make me proud every year.

This year three current graduate students--Caelen Elliot, Evan Hullick, and Matt Stienhafel--delivered wonderful presentations. Alumni Joseph Boyne moderated a panel and Chris Suarez gave a presentation.

It was a particularly celebratory occasion: Evan successfully defended his dissertation on April 3, the day before the conference started. We are delighted to hoist a glass in his honor!

And Caelen won the Eleanor Clark award for the best essay for her paper, "Yearner and Priest, Black and White: Visual Ties in the Poetry of Robert Penn Warren and Gerard Manley Hopkins." Congratulations, Caelen!
