English Graduate Students at the Hornbake Library (UMD) and the Folger Shakespeare Library
As part of their work in Dr. Baker's course, ENG - 721: Introduction to the Profession of Letters, students from CU's newest class of English graduate students continued their tour of local literary archives this fall, visiting the Hornbake Library at the University of Maryland, College Park on October 29th as well as the Folger Shakespeare Library on November 19th.
At the University of Maryland, Hornbake librarians Douglas McElrath and Amber Kohl presented CU students with a hands-on encounter with archival literary matters -- notable amongst the materials pulled for our students were manuscripts drawn from the poetry of Thom Gunn, typescript letters exchanged between TS Eliot and the novelist, Djuna Barnes, as well as a rare, signed first edition of James Joyce's Ulysses (1922) and a first edition of Thomas Hobbes' Leviathan.
