For the Bachelor of Arts in English degree, the following sequence of courses is suggested.

Freshman Year: Survey of British Literature (ENG 231 and 232)

Sophomore Year: Chaucer (ENG 351 or 352) and Shakespeare (ENG 461); literature electives

Junior Year: Two (of the three) genre courses (ENG 331: Lyric, ENG 332: Drama, ENG 333: Narrative); literature electives

Senior Year: A year-long Senior Seminar (ENG 431 / 432); literature electives

English courses at the 100 and 200-level (with the exception of ENG 231-232 and 235-236) count only as free electives and do not satisfy departmental requirements for majors.
