The interdisciplinary faculty in the Irish Studies program are happy to announce the return of Catholic University's Irish Summer Institute this coming May!
Before COVID-19 thwarted so many of our plans and paths in 2020, our faculty at Catholic University led this program annually in Ireland -- in Cork, in Kerry and in Dublin -- after the end of the spring semester. The Institute returns this coming spring, beginning around May 21st and running through June 24th 2022.
The Irish Summer Institute is open to all enrolled students at Catholic University, both undergraduate and graduate. While abroad students are enrolled in two classes, ENG 305 /DR 576 - Shakespeare to Sheridan: The Irish in the Theatre, 1600-1775, and IRSH 110 - Irish Language and Culture. These classes are taught respectively by professors Patrick Tuite and Jennifer O'Riordan. More information on how to apply (including a tentative syllabus of activities) can be found at this link at CUAbroad.
Generous tuition scholarship funding is available to students for this program. Applications for a scholarship can be found at this link. The deadline for scholarship applications is February 24th 2022. Apply early! I also encourage any and all students to reach out to me at bakerg@cua.edu if questions or concerns about the program come up.
All may apply! Don't simply dream of an early Irish summer -- make it happen -- take advantage of CUAbroad and the 2022 Irish Summer Institute!
